Heritage Gunsmiths, Inc. was established in 1966 by Ken Eyster, who discovered early on that shotgun performance was far more subtle than rifle work. After operating in Mt. Vernon through the mid-1950s, Ken and his wife Dorothy moved to Centerburg to expand the business and have better testing facilities.
"Controlling the performance of a shotgun was much more difficult and subtle than controlling the performance of a rifle." — Ken Eyster
Today, Jim Eyster carries on the family tradition with the same approach his father pioneered: no automatic tooling, no shortcuts, just individual handwork on hand-operated machines.
Unlike shops running production lines, Heritage Gunsmiths treats each barrel as an individual project. Hand-fitted work costs more time, but delivers the precision that matters when you're trying to optimize shotgun performance.
