Full description and what we offer
Oklahoma Carry Academy teaches Texas License to Carry (LTC) courses—also called concealed handgun licenses (CHL)—to people who want the legal right to open or concealed carry in Texas. Courses cover state gun laws, firearms safety, and what you need to know before carrying.
With a Texas LTC you can: - Legally open carry a handgun in Texas - Legally concealed carry a handgun in Texas - Carry in 37 reciprocal states that honor Texas permits - Skip the background check when buying from private sellers (Texas has permitless carry as of Sept. 1, 2021, but the LTC still matters for reciprocity)
- •Bottom line: You don't need an LTC to carry in Texas anymore, but you probably want one if you travel or cross state lines.
| Format | Details |
|---|---|
| Online | DPS-approved since Sept. 1, 2019. Take it from home. |
| In-Person | Classroom instruction with hands-on familiarization. |

Oklahoma Carry Academy runs LTC classes in: - Austin – Getting easier to schedule - San Antonio – State-approved online and in-person options - Corpus Christi – Full LTC certification courses - El Paso – License to Carry instruction
Non-resident permits available. If you live outside Texas but want to carry in Texas and reciprocal states, Oklahoma Carry Academy offers non-resident LTC permits.
- •Anyone 21+ who wants to legally carry in Texas
- •Gun owners who didn't know about the LTC-to-reciprocal-states benefit
- •People who travel across state lines (37 states honor Texas LTC)
- •Military active duty and veterans (special no-range exemption)
- •Women looking for concealed carry guidance (instructors teach handgun selection for different body types and comfort)
1. Complete training – Either online or in-person through Oklahoma Carry Academy 2. Apply with DPS – Submit application, fingerprints, and familiarization qualification to Texas Department of Public Safety
Both steps can happen at the same time. You don't have to finish training before you start the DPS application.
- •Shall-issue state – Texas DPS issues LTC to qualifying applicants (not discretionary)
- •No registration required – Texas doesn't register firearms
- •Permitless carry – As of Sept. 1, 2021, you can carry without a permit in Texas (but the LTC still gets you reciprocity)
- •Campus carry – Texas allows concealed carry on some university campuses
- •Private property rights – Property owners can prohibit firearms
Reciprocity. The Texas LTC is recognized in 37 other states. If you ever travel, cross state lines, or want the option—get the LTC. It's how you carry legally nationwide.
Women and concealed carry: Instructors regularly get asked about the best concealed carry handguns for women. The honest answer: pick whatever you shoot best and can conceal comfortably. Comfort matters more than brand.
