Practical Shooting's entire mission is straightforward: bring core fundamentals back to firearms handling. Owner Wes Elliott and his instructors believe the same thing—all the gadgets and upgrades in the world don't matter if you haven't drilled the basics into muscle memory through proper training, realistic scenarios, and consistent practice.
"Being armed doesn't always mean being ready. Realistic Training = Realistic Expectations"
Their philosophy is "Lead, follow or get out of the way"—it's about taking responsible civilians and giving them the knowledge, skills, and situational awareness to control their surroundings and apply both defensive and offensive tactics when necessary.
Wes Elliott (Owner/Director of Training) has been teaching military, law enforcement, and civilians since 2000. He's certified through FLETC (federal), CLEET (state), and NRA for handgun, shotgun, patrol rifle, long-range rifle, and select fire weapons. He's also a Pottawatomie County Sheriff Department member and former Oklahoma County Tactical Team operator.
Lead Instructors include: - Chad Warren: Currently contracts with US Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine. Primary instructor for Standardized Tactical Aviation Training at the National Air Training Center. Former lead instructor at United States Shooting Academy. 8 years active duty Marine Corps (Infantry, EOD, Force Reconnaissance). - Craig Williams: OBN Agent, CLEET and NRA certified for handgun through select fire weapons. - Troy Fulbright: Staff Sergeant, full-time instructor. 17 years law enforcement, 15 years SWAT. Certified Rangemaster and long-range rifle instructor. Over 3,000 hours in use-of-force and tactics training.
Courses run regularly throughout the year with scheduled dates posted on their calendar.
Reviews consistently highlight the instruction quality and how engaging the classes are. Students mention learning more than expected, the instructors making the material fun without sacrificing seriousness, and a willingness to return for advanced courses. Several note the legal definitions and concealed carry responsibility covered during permit courses—not just shooting mechanics.
