Full description and what we offer

Doublegun Preservation focuses on what most gunsmiths avoid: restoring and refinishing historical double guns, especially those with Damascus and twist-steel barrels. This isn't generic gunsmithing—it requires knowledge of period-correct techniques and materials.

  • Full restoration - complete teardown, refinishing, wood reconditioning
  • Wood work - reconditioning ($400), repair ($40/hr)
  • Barrel refinishing - rust blue, Belgian blue, and period-correct coloring
  • Damascus/twist-steel refinishing - $350–$600 depending on grade and color
  • Color case hardening - $600 (by Classic Guns or Turnbull Mfg)
  • Preventative maintenance - full service ($250) or partial ($100)
  • Specialized work - choke opening, honing, rib re-soldering, custom fabrication

Damascus barrels require skills most modern gunsmiths don't have. Doublegun Preservation offers five grades—standard to extra-fine—with hand-applied finishes in black-on-white or British brown.

They document everything: bore diameters, wall thicknesses, chokes, drop at comb, cast. This level of detail matters when you're preserving a 100+ year old shotgun.
