NW Precision Training started with a straightforward idea: law enforcement firearms training shouldn't stay behind the badge. In 2020, owner Shawn Trotter—an active-duty detective with the Eugene Police Department and firearms instructor since 2006—founded the company on a simple principle.
"When we're not training law enforcement, we're training you."
The difference matters. Your instructors aren't selling a theory about how firearms training should work. They're people whose lives depend on these tactics every single day.
Shawn Trotter (Owner/Instructor) — Active Eugene Police Detective, firearms instructor since 2006, father of five. Trained by some of law enforcement's top instructors.
Scott Thomas (Lead Instructor) — Former Eugene PD Sergeant and Range Master overseeing firearms training for multiple agencies. Seven years as patrol officer, field training officer, and detective. Competes in IDPA shooting sports.
Melinda McLaughlin (Instructor) — 30+ years in personal protection across multiple disciplines. 11+ years as sworn deputy, retired 2021. Currently Eugene Police Department's Public Information Director since 2006.
The training you receive comes from instructors who carry firearms professionally and teach because they believe civilians deserve the same quality instruction that keeps law enforcement alive.
Taxpayers fund law enforcement training. NW Precision Training believes that knowledge shouldn't end with the badge. With new gun ownership rising sharply in recent years, civilian access to legitimate firearms instruction—from people who depend on it professionally—has never mattered more.
