Why OSSA Over Third-Party Options
"The OSSA course was simple and straight-forward. I appreciate getting just what I need and being able to move forward with the process." — Jennifer K.
- •Drafted by licensed attorney trained on Oregon law
- •Endorsed by all 36 Oregon sheriffs (Board of Directors)
- •Updated as legislation changes—OSSA testifies in hearings and participates in bill drafting
- •Non-profit organization keeps costs affordable
- •Annual training program for sheriff's office CHL staff statewide
- •Content reviewed by legal counsel; third-party courses may not have current material
How It Works
1. Take the course (free) — Nine segments, no time pressure, repeatable 2. Purchase certificate ($60 CHL or $30 PTP) — Pay via credit/debit card 3. Apply for permit — Present certificate to your county sheriff's office
- •Important: Oregon does not recognize out-of-state CHLs. You must carry an Oregon CHL to legally conceal carry in Oregon (non-residents may apply at sheriff's discretion, varies by county).
About OSSA
The Oregon State Sheriffs' Association has supported sheriffs since 1916. When you take this course, you directly support OSSA's mission to train and resource your county sheriff. The organization maintains close relationships with CHL processing staff across all 36 counties.
