Thorp Outdoors is run by Taylor Thorp, a Southern Oregon native who's spent 30+ years hunting and fishing the Pacific Northwest. He's been guiding hunts professionally for over a decade, and his focus is straightforward: know where the animals are, scout constantly, and put hunters on game.
Rocky Mountain Elk (Cow) - $2,450 for a 3-4 day hunt on a 4,000-acre ranch in Long Creek. Tag is guaranteed. Available December through March. Includes 5-bedroom house with full kitchen and Traeger grill.
Columbia Blacktail Deer - $6,500. Hunts take place in the biggest blacktail units in the state using optics, driving, and foot hunting through timber. Mix of public and private land. Targeting mature four-point bucks.
Applegate Unit Blacktail (Muzzleloader) - One of Oregon's most desired hunts. Thorp specializes in this unit and targets bucks in the 135-150 range. Heavy rut activity, unpredictable weather, sometimes snow for tracking.
Roosevelt Elk - Call for pricing. Hunts across Southwest Oregon units on public land and occasional private leases. Steep, brushy country requiring glassing and scouting. Roosevelt bulls run heavier than Rocky Mountain elk.
Public Land Hunts - Thorp guides hunts on draw tags (rifle, bow, muzzleloader) and over-the-counter spring and fall bear tags across various Oregon units.
Guided 8-hour trips on the Rogue River (Grants Pass) or North and South Umpqua Rivers (Roseburg) from January through March. Fish are hatchery and wild steelhead, typically 12-20 lbs. Cost: $200/person (double occupancy). Heated drift boat and all fishing gear provided.
"Taylor grew up in Grants Pass and knows the Rogue River like the back of his hand."
Hunts include lodging, food, beverages, and use of provided gear. You bring rifle/ammunition (or bow), Oregon license and tag, and appropriate clothing. Fishing trips provide boat, gear, and guidance—bring warm clothes and rain gear.
Reservations for ranch elk hunts are time-sensitive. Contact directly for current availability and booking.
Since 2013 - Over 10 years guiding hunters and anglers. Thorp's approach: extensive scouting with seasons, terrain knowledge, and a genuine enthusiasm for the work.
