Full description and what we offer
Wallowa Mountain Outfitters operates under special use permit in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, running hunts up to 27 miles into some of Northeast Oregon's most remote country. All operations center on the Minam unit (#60), known for one of Oregon's largest elk populations with consistent harvests of 300-350+ class bulls annually.
Supplied Drop Camps come loaded with everything except food, hunting gear, and personal items. You get 2 mules per hunter (extras available for $175 each), with each mule carrying up to 120 lbs or two large duffle bags—bulk matters as much as weight.
Drop Camps offer the basics: your gear gets packed in and dropped. Same mule allocation. This option lets experienced hunters run the show once camp is established.
Guided Hunts are available on occasion—full-service trips where the outfitter handles logistics. Everything provided except personal and hunting gear.
| Hunt Type | Details |
|---|---|
| Elk | Rifle (draw) and archery (draw-only). Archery uses Eagle Cap Zone #253R1 and #253R2. |
| Mule Deer | Draw tags with ~90% draw rate. |
| Spring Bear | Offered seasonally. |
| Sheep & Goat | Limited availability, draw-dependent. |
| Specialty Trips | Cowboy Dinner Trip and Minam River Lodge experiences. |
Deposits roll over to next year if tags aren't drawn—no money lost if you don't draw.
"With camps up to 27 miles in, this is true wilderness hunting at its best."
The terrain is genuine backcountry—you're packing mules, signing risk waivers, and hiking into country where cell service doesn't exist.
