Full description and what we offer
Mickelson Ranch operates a full-service hunting outfitter on the sprawling grasslands of western South Dakota near Mud Butte. The ranch spans 7,000+ acres—over 3.5 square miles—where buffalo roam free alongside mule deer, whitetail deer, turkeys, and antelope.
Bison hunting is the ranch's specialty. You can hunt mature trophy bulls weighing 1,900–2,100 lbs, younger trophy bulls at 1,200–1,400 lbs, breeding cows (900–1,100 lbs), or calves (450–600 lbs) that produce exceptionally tender cuts. Winter is prime season—buffalo hides are thicker and more plush, making trophy mounts more impressive.
- •Weapons allowed: Bow, black powder rifle, or large caliber rifle. Guides will get you within shooting range of your chosen animal. After the shot, the ranch transports your bison to a nearby processing facility that specializes in bison meat. You keep everything.
