Full description and what we offer
TJA Use of Force Training has been the standard in law enforcement and corrections instruction since 1983. Based in Harrisburg, PA, the company has trained and certified over 17,000 instructors across municipal, state, and federal law enforcement agencies—plus military units and international operations.
Here's what makes TJA different: they teach tactics using less-lethal equipment, but they don't push any manufacturer's products. They evaluate equipment, test it in the field, and train on proper use and deployment. The company's position is straightforward—a product should stand on its own merits, and training is training. They've been doing this full-time for 38 years. They don't sell gear; they train professionals how to use it safely and effectively, which protects your agency from liability when things get serious in court.
TJA offers three main course categories:
Use of Force Courses - Edged Weapons Awareness & Spontaneous Response - Emergency Response Belt (their own invention) - Expandable Police Baton - IEW (Impact Edged Weapon) Instructor Certification - JPX Jet Projector® Gun – TJA Instructor Certification - Less Lethal Shotgun Specialist™ Instructor Certification - OC Aerosol Weapons - Tactical Munitions Specialist™
Law Enforcement & Tactical Operations Courses - Police tactical operations and SWAT-focused instruction
Correctional Courses - Specialized training for corrections professionals
Certified Training Kits available for agencies that want ongoing resources.
Brian S. Clark – CEO and Chief Instructor. 22 years as a Master Instructor at TJA, with 30 years in military and corrections work. He's known for delivering comprehensive training from presentation to hands-on tactics.
Thomas Archambault – President Emeritus, Chief Instructor, and Founder. Since 1983, he's trained and certified over 17,000 instructors. Notable achievements include being selected to train the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in chemical weapons response one year after the Waco, Texas incident. He developed the first nationally recognized generic OC Aerosol Spray Instructor Course used in the I.A.C.P. pepper spray study. He invented the Emergency Response Belt and created the Master C.E.R.T. Instructor Certification and Disturbance Control Team programs.
Agencies can host TJA training on-site. Host facilities receive tuition discounts, and the training comes to your location—no travel hassles.
"Fully backed in court" certification programs mean your agency has documented professional training from nationally recognized experts. If your tactical team faces legal scrutiny, jurors understand that training from TJA instructors reflects a department's serious commitment to proper use of force decision-making. That credibility matters when the lawsuit starts.
TJA's 37+ years of credibility and training track record has proven decisive in court testimony. Departments trained by TJA can show they took professional development seriously with instructors of national expertise.
