Heidelberg Sportsmen's Association

Heidelberg Sportsmen's Association operates as a private club dedicated to shooting sports and shooting safety. Located at 20 Sportsman Lane in Schaefferstown, PA 17088 (southeastern Lebanon County, south of the PA Routes 501/897/419 intersection), the club serves competitive and recreational shooters across multiple disciplines.

The club hosts regular matches and shoots throughout the year:

• •Steel Challenge - Open to rimfire and centerfire handguns plus pistol caliber carbines. Shooters engage 5 courses of fire on steel plates (4 white and 1 red) at various distances. You shoot each course 3 times; your best time counts toward your match score. Costs $10-$15 depending on firearms and age. Ammunition requirement: 150 rounds or less per firearm.

• •Pit Precision Shoot - Handgun event for semi-auto, revolver, and single-shot pistols in rimfire or centerfire calibers (no magnum or steel core). Ten targets at varying sizes and distances, 5 shots per target for 50 points possible. Entry $10 first firearm, $5 additional. Youth (17 and under) $5. A random number drawn at shoot's end means one shooter shoots free next time.

• •Big Bore/Military Surplus - Dedicated events for larger rifle calibers and military-pattern firearms.

• •PCC/Magnum Handgun Shoot - Pistol caliber carbine and magnum handgun divisions.

• •Trap Shoot - Traditional clay target shooting.

• •Archery - Bow hunting and target archery programs.

• •Rimfire Precision Rifle and 3 Gun Shoots - Event coordinators needed for these matches.

The club offers hunter education courses and runs the Lebanon Family and Youth Field Day to introduce young shooters to the sport. Barritus Defense Training classes are available (2027 season planning in progress).

Membership is required to use the ranges. Current membership cards must be displayed when shooting. New member applications and renewal forms are available online. Club meetings held the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the clubhouse. Club orientation is offered after meetings and other times throughout the month—open to all members for rule refreshers.

Guests may visit infrequently (limit 2 at a time), up to 3 visits total before deciding on membership. All guests must complete a release form placed in the locked mailbox at the rifle range pavilion before shooting begins.

• •Access: From Route 897, head south on Market Street (past Fountain Park) approximately 1/4 mile to Sportsman Lane (T353 on GPS). Turn left; club entrance is 3/8 mile on the left. Keep speed to 10 mph on access road out of respect for neighboring farmer.

All shooters and guests must wear eye and ear protection during events. Firearms must be clear of ammunition and magazines when not on the firing line—guns may be holstered, cased, boxed, carried in gun carts, or muzzle-down between stations. Targets must be stapled or tacked only to white/black backers on wooden frames. Violations of proper target placement or safety rules can result in suspension or membership termination. Members are encouraged to report safety violations using the online violation form.
