Mystic Army Navy Store opened in August 1993 as a single location in historic downtown Mystic. Founders Larry Gemma and Bert Dahl wanted to bring something different to the district—a genuine adventure for shoppers looking for surplus, tactical gear, and firearms.

By 1996, they'd expanded to a second location in Olde Mistick Village. Owner Michelle Gemma now runs the operation and has continued the growth tradition, expanding the downtown flagship to twice its original size in 2017.
