Crooked Creek Outfitters

Crooked Creek Outfitters operates guided big game hunts across prime hunting land in Northwest South Dakota's Harding County, with some areas bordering Montana. The outfitters are native to the region—owners Matt Gilbert and Pine Gilbert grew up in ranching families here, and partner John Hight has decades of experience in the outfitting business dating back to 1983.

• •Mule Deer - Spot and stalk along pre-scouted trails, gullies, alfalfa fields, and water sources
• •Whitetail Deer - River bottom hunts using man-made and pop-up ground blinds
• •Antelope - Water hole and alfalfa field hunts with archery or firearm
• •Predator Hunts - Available through their operations

Guided hunts available for both archery and firearm. Archery tags are a guaranteed draw through South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks. Firearm tags operate on a lottery system—both require direct application through the state licensing division.

Hunters are housed in comfortable surroundings during their stay. Meals are not included unless prior arrangements are made directly with owner Matt Gilbert at (701) 523-1401.

• •Forest Service Permit: Crooked Creek holds the U.S. Forest Service Permit for all Custer National Forest land in their operating area.

Both Matt and Pine transitioned to full-time outfitting management in 2012, with John remaining available for support.
