Full description and what we offer
Tennessee Carry cuts through the bureaucracy. Instead of sitting through an all-day in-person class, you complete a state-approved online course in about 90 minutes. You start and stop whenever you want. You pass the test. You buy your certificate for $29. Done.
That's the entire online portion. Everything that used to waste your time is now flexible.
Step 1: Create Your Account Sign up on the Tennessee Carry training site. This is where you'll watch the course material and take the required test.
Step 2: Complete the Course The state requires approximately 90 minutes of instruction. You can break it up however you want—finish it in one sitting or spread it across several days. The course covers everything on the test: concealed carry fundamentals, legal considerations, practical safety, and Tennessee-specific regulations.
Step 3: Pass the Test & Buy Your Certificate Once you pass the course test, you have the option to purchase your official completion certificate for $29. Keep it—you'll need it. The certificate is valid for 12 months, giving you a full year to complete the rest of the process.
Step 4: Head to a Driver Services Center This is the only part you can't do online. You'll visit a Full Services Driver Services Center (regular centers won't process permits) with: - Your completion certificate - Filled-out CCP Proof of Training form - Certified proof of U.S. citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (photocopies don't work) - Proof of full Social Security Number - Photo ID - Tennessee driver's license OR two current proofs of residency with your address (no P.O. boxes)
Pay the $65 application fee, get fingerprinted, and you're done. Your permit arrives by mail.
No Firearm Qualification Required — You don't have to shoot or even own a gun to get your Tennessee concealed carry permit. The online course covers the legal and safety knowledge you need.

Tennessee Carry's online option is built for people who: - Work irregular schedules or long hours - Live far from training facilities - Can't commit to an 8-hour in-person class - Want flexibility to learn at their own pace - Need a state-approved certificate without the hassle
If you want hands-on instruction or prefer live training, Tennessee Carry also offers in-person classes through partner instructors.
The site includes extensive resources about Tennessee's two permit types:
Their blog breaks down the differences, reciprocity maps for traveling with your permit, specific scenarios (carrying in state parks, traffic stops with a gun), and why you might want a permit even in a constitutional carry state.
The course covers everything Tennessee law requires: firearm safety, legal use of force, understanding your rights, practical carrying considerations, and state-specific regulations.
They also publish regular articles on: - Step-by-step permit application process - State park carry rules - Travel reciprocity by state - Age eligibility (including recent federal court rulings) - Common misconceptions about Tennessee permits
You get a state-approved, legally recognized certificate of training without arranging time off, driving hours, or sitting in a classroom. The $29 certificate is what the state accepts—it's not a shortcut or workaround, it's the legitimate path Tennessee created for people who don't have 8 hours to spare.
From account creation to fingerprinting takes roughly the same calendar time as a traditional class, but you control when the training happens.
