Ambush Custom Coatings was founded in 2020 by Donovan Elizondo, a US Army veteran and Dallas Fire Fighter who spent years designing and refurbishing custom weapons systems. When he discovered Cerakote, he recognized its potential and applied the same discipline that guided his military career—efficiency and quality as the highest priority—to his coating shop.

Ambush sits at the top of a very short list of Cerakote applicators in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Their lead applicator holds formal training and certification through NIC Industries' official Cerakote certification program—not just someone experimenting in a garage or curing coatings in an old smoker.

Cerakote is a polymer-ceramic composite coating developed in 1984 by NIC Industries. Unlike powder coat, Cerakote applies at only 1-2 mils thick—thin enough that it won't affect tight tolerances or add measurable thickness, yet durable enough to withstand up to 1,800°F without discoloring or distorting.
