Central Texas Gun Works operates out of South Bend Center at 321 W. Ben White Boulevard (Suite 203), right off I-35 in Austin. They specialize in firearms training courses ranging from absolute beginner safety to advanced licensing and private security instruction.
The 3-4 hour beginner firearm safety class runs on Sunday mornings at 9am. Class size is limited—they regularly fill up. Here's what gets covered in the classroom portion:
- •Texas handgun and rifle laws
- •Use of force and deadly force statutes
- •NRA safety rules and protocols
- •Firearm transportation and storage
- •Gun operation and parts identification
- •Ammunition basics
- •Loading and unloading magazines
- •Loading semi-auto firearms
- •Malfunction clearing
- •Sight alignment and trigger control
- •Grip and stance demonstration with training firearms
Guns and ammunition are included in the price. You don't need to own a firearm or bring ammo. Cost is $79 per person.
They offer several paths to your LTC (formerly called CHL—Concealed Handgun License):
| Class Type | Price | Schedule | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial LTC | $69 | Thursdays & Saturdays, 8am-2pm | Non-military/civilian applicants |
| Military/Veteran LTC | $60 | Same schedule available | Active duty, veterans, EMT, fire, police |
| Refresher Class | Varies | Call for availability | Does not fulfill initial training requirement |
Classes are scheduled regularly throughout January-April 2026 with multiple dates weekly. The beginner safety class meets Texas court-ordered training requirements, making it relevant whether you're taking it voluntarily or by court directive.
Classroom instruction includes demonstration and practice with training firearms. They check your grip and stance on the range so you leave knowing the mechanics, not just the theory.

They also operate as an FFL (Federal Firearms Licensed dealer) for transfers, sell firearms online and in-store, offer layaway plans (25% deposit holds a gun for 30 days), and run private security training courses (Level 2 and Level 3 certifications).
No Refunds on Classes – They ask you notify them ASAP if you can't make it. They'll do their best to reschedule you, but once enrolled, the class fee is non-refundable.
Completing an LTC class is step one. After class, you'll need to submit fingerprints at IdentoGO® and fill out the online Texas LTC application through the state. CTGW provides guidance on this process.
