Bend of the River Training

Bend of the River Training operates from a private range in Woodway, Texas (1255 Sundown Drive), with covered bays and lighting. Ken Buckley and his team of certified instructors handle firearms training for civilians and first responders, with a focus on making shooters both competent and confident.

Online LTC Courses - Texas License to Carry course (online only): $35 - Online LTC + Handgun Proficiency Package: $85 (combines the online course with live-fire proficiency work) - Handgun Proficiency Segment (standalone): $60 - In-Person LTC Course: $95

The online LTC course covers Texas Government Code Chapter 411 requirements and gets you compliant with the classroom portion. Students can then schedule proficiency testing at the range or online, depending on the package selected.

In-Person Training

If you don't own a handgun, they rent 9mm or .22 caliber handguns for $20. First come, first served. You must pay and reserve at the time of order. They'll match the gun to the shooter for comfort. You bring your own USA-made ammunition.

The private range is covered (weather-protected), lighted, and comfortable. They provide both paper and reactive targets. This is the same facility used for 1st Responder certification, which requires demonstrations of proficiency in low-light conditions and dynamic movement drills.

To qualify for a Texas LTC, you must be: - At least 21 years old (active duty military can be younger) - A legal resident of Texas or relocating with intent to establish residency - Meet federal firearms purchase qualifications

You're ineligible if you have felony convictions, certain misdemeanor convictions, pending criminal charges, chemical dependency, certain psychological diagnoses, or active protective/restraining orders. Initial licenses are valid 4 years; renewals are 5 years.

Non-Texas residents can get a Texas LTC if they meet residency requirements and submit out-of-state ID, passport photos, and form LTC-6.

This is the specialized course for law enforcement, corrections, and security personnel who already hold an LTC and want to carry duty firearms. It's 28 hours over 3 days, taught under House Bill 1069 standards. Instruction covers: - Classroom instruction on law and techniques - Field instruction and live-fire demonstrations - Low-light shooting - Shooting on the move - Proficiency requirements per Government Code §411.184
