Full description and what we offer
The American Rimfire Association operates the sanctioned benchrest competition network for .22 rimfire shooters across the United States. They don't run a single range—instead, they certify individual clubs and competitions, maintaining national rankings and championship qualifications.
Clubs become ARA-sanctioned by completing a sanction form, paying an annual fee, and having a match director who agrees to follow ARA rules. Once sanctioned, clubs can host official ARA matches where scores count toward national rankings and state championships.
Two Competition Classes: - Unlimited Class (unrestricted rifles and equipment) - Factory Class (restricted to approved production rifles)
ARA uses a proprietary scoring system based on: - Target scores (blue bull on 11×17 white paper) - Shot group placement - X-ring counts - Performance across multiple events and ranges
The A/Line calculation factors in points earned, event participation, number of different ranges competed at, and aggregate scores—creating a nationally comparable ranking system.
Electronic scoring via the OnTarget system is highly recommended but not required. Clubs can set this up for roughly $1,050 (laptop, scanner, OnTarget software) or use manual scoring.
Competitors must complete at least 20 targets in their state and class, or 50% of available state targets if fewer than 20 exist. Rankings determine state champions separately for Unlimited and Factory classes.
2500 Targets - Perfect scores get special treatment. Match directors must follow ARA procedures, and if the score ties or beats the current record X-count, it gets mailed to ARA for official recognition.
