The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit (CCMU) is the nation's premier collegiate action shooting team. Located in College Station, Texas, CCMU represents Texas A&M University in some of the most competitive shooting sports in the country, with 20 national championships under their belt.
The team fields competitors across four primary disciplines:
CCMU competes in the Scholastic Action Pistol Program (SASP), which emphasizes fast and accurate handgun shooting with strict weapons safety protocols. Competitions consist of four stages, shot five times each by team members. Divisions include: - Centerfire - 9mm striker-fire handguns - 1911 - .45 ACP platform - Rimfire - .22 caliber handguns
CCMU holds SASP Collegiate National Titles in all three divisions, with wins in Centerfire (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2025), 1911 (2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025), and Rimfire (2016).
CCMU competes in sniper-initiated precision rifle matches against SWAT teams from Texas, adjoining states, and federal agencies. The team participates in: - Texas State SWAT Championship (hosted by Tactical Police Officer Association) - TTPOA Pirkle SWAT Sniper Challenge - Professional-level competition - Mammoth Sniper Challenge - 3-day event covering 30 miles of rucking with 14 competition stages
Recent placements include 7th and 24th out of 29 professional SWAT sniper teams at the June 2025 TTPOA challenge.
The team competes in fast-paced, mentally and physically demanding 3-gun matches requiring shooters to switch between rifle, shotgun, and handgun while navigating dynamic stages. Notable competitions include:
CCMU trains and competes with professional SWAT teams through: - Texas Law Enforcement Multigun Championship (TXLE Multigun) - Texas State SWAT Championship - The second-largest event of its kind annually, attended by 30+ SWAT teams from Texas, other states, federal, military, and international law enforcement
CCMU cadets receive advanced training at two of the most prestigious firearms facilities in the country - access normally restricted to special operations units.
T1G hosts every special missions unit in the Department of Defense. CCMU cadets train 2.5 days (18 hours each) at the Rogers Range facility - one of only a handful of such specialized ranges in the country. Other Rogers Ranges are located at SFOD-D, DevGroup, and FBI HRT headquarters.
Training includes: - Close quarters combat marksmanship (rifle and pistol) - Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) medical training - Obstacle course/confidence training - Personal leadership development - Team building exercises
Instructor staff has included retired SEALs (including 10-year Dev Group veterans), former Army SF operators, and retired senior Task Force Orange members.
Mid-South holds the Naval Special Warfare contract - all SEAL Teams train there twice yearly. The facility also hosts SFOD-D, Marsoc, SOAR, and SF CIF companies. Features thousands of pneumatically-operated targets and some of the best instructors in the world. CCMU's training focus is the Advanced Application of Fundamentals, with the institutional motto: "Do the basics better."
