GPS Shooting Sports organizes sanctioned competitive shooting matches at Wallis-Orchard Gun Range (12206 Reinecke Rd, Wallis, Texas 77485). They run USPSA, Steel Challenge, and specialized competition formats for shooters at all levels.
| Match Type | Frequency | Fee | Rounds | Start Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USPSA | Every 4th Sunday | $35 | 6 stages + 1 classifier | 8:30 AM (Summer) / 9 AM (Winter) |

Steel Challenge consists of 5 steel plates per stage with one Stop Plate. Shooters can engage plates in any order, but the Stop Plate must be last (hitting it ends the string). You get 5 strings per stage and your score is the best 4 strings.
Allowed divisions: - Rimfire Pistol (Optics or Iron Sights) - Rimfire Rifle (Optics or Iron Sights) - Pistol Caliber Carbine (Optics or Iron Sights) - Centerfire Pistol (Open, Limited, Production, Single Stack, Carry Optics, Limited Optics) - Revolver (Iron Sights or Optics)
You can shoot up to 2 guns for $10 additional entry fee (must register second gun in Practiscore with 2nd gun discount).
Classification available - Shoot at least 4 of the 8 official Steel Challenge stages to earn your division classification. GPS runs 6 of the 8 official stages monthly.
The New Generation match is a simplified USPSA format designed for new competitors. Equipment rules are relaxed while maintaining full USPSA safety standards and scoring rules.
Format: - 6 stages maximum - 120 round minimum (150 recommended with make-ups) - Hit Factor scoring (best 2 shots per target) - Two power factors: Major (165+ min) and Minor (125+ min)
Divisions: - Optics (red dot, scope, or laser) - Iron Sights (notch and post) - PCC (Pistol Caliber Carbine) - Optics 10 / Iron Sights 10 (for 10-round magazine limits)
All GPS matches follow COLD RANGE protocols: - No firearm handling except in designated Safe Area tables or under Range Officer supervision - Safe Areas are for unloaded firearms only - Ammunition and magazines prohibited in Safe Areas - Mandatory trigger finger discipline during movement - Muzzle discipline (180 rule enforced) - Accidental discharge = disqualification - Sweeping = disqualification - 3 over-the-berm disqualifications results in range ban
GPS maintains a stage repository with detailed information on all stages used in their competitions.
"Safety is of the utmost importance in this sport. Violating any of the safety rules will lead to disqualification from the match."
