Full description and what we offer
Houston LTC teaches the state-required 4-6 hour LTC course plus the shooting qualification you need to apply for your Texas License to Carry. This isn't a rubber-stamp operation—the classroom portion covers actual material that matters, and the range work proves you can handle a handgun safely.
The course hits four core topics, each one relevant to responsible carry:
You'll get a study guide covering everything on the final quiz. Pass the 25-question quiz with 70% or better and move to the range.
You need to prove you can safely handle and fire a handgun. The qualification is 50 rounds in three stages:
| Distance | Rounds |
|---|---|
| 3 yards | 20 |
| 7 yards | 20 |
| 15 yards | 10 |
Qualify with a revolver or semi-automatic pistol (.22 caliber or larger). You don't have to use your carry gun for qualification—once you get your LTC, pick whichever gun you want. If your gun isn't safe to fire, use one of the instructor's guns.
Prerequisite: This course isn't for first-time shooters. You need to demonstrate safe handling before you qualify. If you're new to handguns, take the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting course first.
Meet at Camping World in Katy (27905 Katy Fwy, Katy, TX 77494) at 9:00 am on Saturdays. Summer classes start at 8:00 am so the shooting happens before the heat peaks.
After classroom, head to Brazos River Sportsman's Club (3525 Bowser Rd, Fulshear, TX 77441) for the qualification.
Saturday dates throughout 2026: - January 24 • February 21 • March 21 • April 11 • May 16 • June 20 • July 18 • August 8 • September 12 • October 10 • November 14 • December 12
