Full description and what we offer
Spread Oaks Ranch operates as a full-service hunting and fishing destination on 5,500 acres of carefully managed wetland and rangeland in Markham, Texas. The property blends river bottomlands, ancient oak mottes, coastal prairie, and native wetland environments—each section maintained specifically to support healthy populations of the game the ranch offers.
Hunts include luxury lodge accommodations (12 ensuite rooms ranging from king beds to a 6-bed bunkhouse), chef-prepared field-to-table and farm-to-table meals using house-cured heritage hams, house-made sausages, greenhouse produce, and ranch-raised Katahdin lamb and Angus beef. Professional guides handle field dressing, game processing arrangements, and taxidermy coordination.
Licenses & Permits: The ranch provides detailed guidance on Texas hunting regulations. Out-of-state waterfowl hunters need a Non-Resident Special Hunting License ($48) plus federal/state migratory bird stamps. Deer and upland hunters have separate options. All hunters born after September 2, 1971, need Hunter Education certification.
Beyond hunting, the ranch hosts corporate retreats, leadership training, culinary getaways, weddings, and live music events like the Cozy Concert series. The property sits on land connected to the "Old Three Hundred"—Stephen F. Austin's original Texas colonists—and that history is documented in the on-site book At A Bend in the River: The History of Spread Oaks Ranch.
