T-Rex Small Arms

T-Rex Small Arms started in 2016 when Tim Hughes, a Texas A&M mechanical engineering graduate with 23 years in subsea oil & gas (including 15 years on the BP Thunder Horse project), found himself laid off during the industry downturn. Instead of searching for another corporate job, he got his FFL Type 07 and decided to build AR-15s the way he knew they should be built.

"We are not a 'me-too' company offering the dirt-cheap base stripped-down models."

Tim noticed massive room for improvement in the muzzle brakes on the market. Using his engineering background, he designed a brake that delivered more recoil reduction and a flatter shooting experience—no barrel flip, so you stay on target for faster follow-ups. That one design turned into nearly 30 more for 5.56mm alone, with designs in development for other calibers.

But the muzzle brakes were just the beginning. T-Rex now performs 35 proprietary gunsmithing processes that other manufacturers don't touch:

Firearms are sold online and shipped to your local FFL for transfer. T-Rex handles all coordination with your chosen dealer.
