Full description and what we offer

A1 Gun Training operates in the greater McKinney and North Dallas area, offering Texas DPS-approved License to Carry (LTC) courses alongside practical firearms training. All classroom and range instruction happens at The Range in McKinney (415 Industrial Blvd., McKinney, TX 75069)—a state-of-the-art indoor shooting facility with full amenities.

The business is run by State Certified Instructor Michael Kennedy, who specializes in training new shooters, women, and veterans. Every class keeps personal self-defense as the core focus.

The official 4-hour DPS-approved classroom covers everything required by Texas law:

  • Weapons Law – deadly force statutes and when you can legally use a gun
  • Handgun Use & Safety – holster selection, secure carry methods
  • Non-Violent Dispute Resolution – de-escalation, communication, situational awareness
  • Safe Storage Practices – storage options and legal requirements

After classroom completion, you complete a 2-hour handgun proficiency qualification at the range. You'll receive your LTC-104 certificate immediately upon passing, then apply through DPS with fingerprinting through Identigo.

  • Why the LTC still matters in Texas: Even with permitless (constitutional) carry now in effect, an LTC gives you serious advantages:

One student wrote: "He turned a young woman who was afraid of all firearms (especially shotguns) into a proficient shooter."
