Texas Concealed Carry is a veteran-owned training company serving the Odessa/Midland area and surrounding Permian Basin communities. They're certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), National Rifle Association (NRA), and US Lawshield. They're also members of the Texas Handgun Association and Firearms Trainers Association (FTA).
Their mission is straightforward: answer every question you have about pistol ownership, the Texas License to Carry, and lawful concealed carry.
While constitutional carry is now legal in Texas, an LTC still matters:
- •Interstate travel: Reciprocal recognition across state lines
- •Employment: Most employers allowing concealed carry still require an LTC
- •No NICS on purchases: You skip background checks since you've already been vetted
- •Campus carry: College students can carry concealed where not posted
- •School zones: An LTC exempts you from the federal 1,000-foot school zone restriction
- •Public school employees: You need an LTC to park in employee lots
- •Airport carry: Accidental carry in gun-free areas becomes excusable
- •Secondary ID: Functions as a second form of picture identification

Out-of-area students: Choose the $50 online-only option and find a local instructor for your shooting portion. TCC will help connect you.
Two concurrent steps:
1. Training & Shooting Proficiency (4-6 hours classroom OR 4 hours online + range time) - Written exam: minimum 70% to pass - Shooting practical: 50 rounds at 3, 7, and 15 yards - Minimum passing score: 175 out of 250 - Red dots are now allowed for qualification - Optical enhancers (scopes, lasers) must be removed per Texas DPS code
2. Application & Fingerprints - Submit online application (DPS fee: $40+) - Schedule fingerprints through IdentoGo.com (Code: 119Q91) or call (888) 467-2080 - Fingerprint fee: $10+ - Total cost for the process: ~$130
You have up to 2 years to submit the application after completing training. Once anything goes to DPS, you have 1 year to finish the rest.

- •Written exam (must score 70%+)
Important: The LTC class is NOT a beginner firearms class. Basic firearm experience is expected. TCC offers a separate Basic Firearm Class (2 hours, $100) for students who need it.
Shooting proficiency is conducted at: - Tejas Shooting Sports - Odessa Area Outdoor Gun Range
Scheduled twice monthly on Saturdays. Check their website for current dates.

- •At minimum 1 box of 50 rounds (100 preferred, 9mm FMJ for qualification)
- •Firearm in good working condition, well-lubed
- •Firearm rentals available with advance notice ($15)
Failures to fire count as zero points on your score, so bring a reliable gun.
