Mim Ofsanik discovered firearms training in late 2013 after an incident made her realize she needed to take personal safety seriously. What started as finding a single class evolved into intensive training at the 2014 Babes with Bullets camp and the 2015 A Girl and A Gun national conference in Texas. That trajectory led her to earn NRA Range Safety Officer certification and instructor status in NRA Basic Pistol and NRA Home Firearm Safety. She's also trained extensively in shotgun, skeet, trap, and modern sporting rifle disciplines.
"I never imagined that shooting was so much fun! I have met so many inspiring, empowered women!"
Formal Instruction - NRA Basic Pistol (nationally recognized curriculum) - NRA Home Firearm Safety - Private and semi-private classes tailored to individual skill levels - Clinics and workshops in specialized disciplines
Shooting Events & Competition - Steel Challenge matches for all experience levels - USPSA and IDPA competition support - Beginner-friendly structured matches (not hardcore competitive required) - Multiple locations across southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia
Flexible Scheduling - Choose your own dates and times for most courses - Group and clinic options available - 3-4 locations to pick from depending on the course
The Purple Gun removes barriers to entry. Classes offer flexible scheduling that works around your life. Competitive events are explicitly beginner-friendly—you don't need to be "a hard-core competitive shooter" to participate. Private instruction means you're not learning at someone else's pace.
Mim is a member of USPSA and IDPA, bringing competitive shooting experience directly into instruction and events.
