Gunny's German Pudelpointers isn't your typical dog breeder. The founder spent 21 years in active duty with the Marine Corps across four combat tours and 38 country deployments, followed by 8 years in federal service. He comes from a line of Swiss-German mountain woodsmen with generations of hunting and military service. That background—combined with a lifetime of hunting, fishing, and working with dozens of dog breeds—led him to one conclusion: the Pudelpointer is the most versatile and loving hunting companion available.
Developed in Germany in 1881 by Baron von Zedlitz, the Pudelpointer combines the German Hunting Poodle's intelligence and water love with the English Pointer's hunting drive and nose. The breed was created specifically to track, point, and retrieve on both land and water. It took a mix of 11 Poodles and 80 Pointers over 30 years to get the balance right.
Here's what you actually get:
Gunny's works with top-notch hunting dog bloodlines specifically selected to ensure puppies inherit strong hunting instincts, intelligence, and a genuine desire to please. Litters are raised in a stimulating environment from day one. Training starts at 4 weeks old—and Gunny's has documented puppies performing flawlessly in their first fowl season at just 6-8 months of age, often outperforming much older hunting dogs.
They feed Purina Pro puppy during weaning, then transition to Purina Pro adult mixed with chicken, venison, rice, eggs, and salmon. Both males and females make excellent hunters—females mature faster but aren't necessarily easier to train.
They don't live off dog sales. Puppies pay for their own food, training, vet bills, and the charitable donations made on their behalf. Everything beyond that goes to their values.
They deliver to major cities and airports worldwide within 4 days. That includes Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii. All paperwork comes organized in a folder—you literally just get on a plane and pick up your dog.
"This man went out of his way to bring a pup to me and it didn't stop there. He continues to be of help whenever we need. He really looks out for his fellow service members." – Wes T.
"Gunny is a great breeder that cares about his pups. He is there for questions and comments anytime. Our Rosie is an amazing family dog that loves kids, water, definitely birds and retrieving." – Jodi M.
They're high-energy in the field and relaxed at home. Highly intelligent, they form strong bonds with their people. They get along with other pets (cats, dogs) when adopted into families, though they'll chase smaller rodents or fowl. If you're looking for a dog that hunts hard and then curls up at your feet on the couch—this is it.
