Full description and what we offer
LaPrele Fly Fishing & Hunting Preserve sits in the Laramie Mountains southwest of Douglas, Wyoming, offering exclusive access to hundreds of acres of private land and miles of mountain streams. This is the setup fly fishers actually want: no strangers standing next to you, no hatchery fish planted yesterday, just cold-water rainbows, browns, and brook trout in natural habitat.
They run 2 to 4-day packages for both complete beginners and experienced anglers. All packages include camp access (bunkhouses, washhouse, chowhouse), instruction from their guides, and exclusive fishing rights on private LaPrele creek and high mountain streams.
You get 2-3 hours of equipment and knot instruction on day one, plus morning, afternoon, and evening lessons throughout your stay. The 4-day package includes a 6-hour excursion into the Medicine Bow Mountains for small stream fishing.
These packages include equipment checks and refresher casting if you want it, then unlimited fishing time on their private water. Non-fishing guests can join for $100/adults or $50/kids under 12.
"No Planted or Hatchery Fish" — their management philosophy in a nutshell.
LaPrele maintains deep water pools, beaver ponds, riffles, and spring-fed sections with significant insect hatches. They run ongoing in-stream habitat projects to keep the fishery improving. All lower preserve fishing is catch-and-release with barbless hooks only. They also offer high mountain brook trout fishing if you want to push further into the mountains.
Everything is catch-and-release on barbless hooks—that's how they keep the water healthy year after year.
LaPrele is not running hunts on their property right now as they rebuild the deer population, especially mule deer hard-hit by chronic wasting disease across the western states. If you're looking for elk, deer, antelope, or other big game hunts, they'll refer you to screened, reputable outfitters they trust.

LaPrele provides rods, reels, line, and flies for learner packages. You bring your Wyoming fishing license, waders, warm/cool weather clothing, wading shoes, bug spray, and personal gear. They ask you to bring food and bedroll—camp has the facilities, you handle meals. If you're an experienced fisher bringing your own equipment, that works too.
Good Place to Teach Kids & Grandkids
They specifically market learner packages as family-friendly. You can bring non-fishing guests (spouse, kids, friends) at a reduced rate. Private land means your kids aren't around other anglers or crowds. :::
All fishing follows Wyoming Game & Fishing Department regulations. You'll need a current Wyoming fishing license before you arrive.
