Full description and what we offer
APW Cogan Custom specializes in firearm refinishing and gunsmithing services. They handle complete metal restoration and coating work for handguns, rifles, and shotguns—transforming worn or damaged firearms into fully restored pieces.
Their refinishing menu covers the full range of traditional and modern finishes:
Classic Finishes: - Direct Chrome (matte or brushed) - Nickel Electrolytic (water-resistant) - Hot Blue (traditional blued steel) - Alpha Blue (durable, corrosion-resistant)
Modern Coatings: - Cerakote (single color or splatter camo patterns) - DLC (Diamond-Like Coating) — hardness exceeding 2500 on the Vickers scale - Titanium Nitride (available in gold and rose)
DLC is one of the hardest finishes available for firearms, with significantly greater hardness than chrome while maintaining similar friction coefficients.
Specialty Work: - Case color hardening for single-action revolvers and semi-auto pistols - Partial refinishing (slides, frames, barrels) at percentage rates - Flaw removal and metal polishing before finishing - Custom splatter Cerakote camo patterns (1 or 2 colors)
Handgun refinishing starts at $275 (hot blue) and ranges to $650+ for premium finishes. Long gun work scales up from $300–$1,100+ depending on profile. Disassembly/reassembly runs $65–$125 depending on model complexity.
Aluminum frames carry a $50–$75 surcharge due to extra processing steps required for proper coating adhesion.
