Dixie Trap & Skeet Club

Dixie Trap & Gun Club was founded in 1985 and sits on 132 beautiful acres in Mathews, Alabama—about 20 miles southeast of Montgomery just off Highway 82. Bill and Becky Parson Jr. own and operate the club, which has grown into one of the region's go-to shooting facilities.

• •Trap (7 fields): American Trap governed by the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA). Targets thrown by Pat Trap machines with Canterbury Voice release systems. Three categories—singles, doubles, and handicap. A round of 25 targets takes about 10 minutes. $6–$9 per round depending on membership status.

• •Skeet (2 fields): National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) standards. One field has voice release system. Shooters cycle through eight stations. Rounds take about 20 minutes. Same pricing: $6–$9 per round.

• •5-Stand: Combines trap, skeet, and sporting clays elements. Shooters rotate through five stations with varied target presentations. About 20 minutes per round. $7–$9 per round.

• •Wobble: Pat Trap machines that oscillate both side-to-side and up-and-down for unpredictable target flight paths. Two fields available. More challenging than standard trap and better preparation for bird hunting. $7–$9 per round.

• •Rifle & Pistol Range: Covered facility with target lines at 100, 200, and 340 yards. Requires $75 annual membership plus $15 daily fee.

The 2,400-square-foot clubhouse includes restrooms, kitchen, dining and lounge areas, and a big-screen TV. The pro shop stocks shotgun shells, reloading supplies, targets, cleaning supplies, and accessories. Eye and ear protection available on-site.

40 RV campsites with water and electricity. The club hosts meetings and shooting events with catering available if arranged in advance.

Shotguns available for $10 per day: Browning, Remington, and Winchester models. Free introductory lessons for first-timers. Custom lessons by appointment.

No age minimum—kids can shoot with a seasoned shooter supervising. Any shotgun type welcome: auto loaders, over-and-unders, pumps, field guns, custom builds.

Dixie Trap & Gun is the home club for the annual Alabama State Trapshooting Championships. The 2015 ASTA Championships were featured on the daytime TV show Absolutely Alabama with Fred Hunter.

$125 annual membership gets you discounted per-round rates ($6–$7 vs. $9 for non-members). Prepaid quantity discounts available. Rifle and pistol range requires the $75 annual membership separate from clay target pricing.
