Majority Arms runs firearms instruction across Alaska and Idaho with a focus on building real skill and confidence. They're known for the SP Turning Target System—the first business to bring it to Alaska—which makes training scenarios more realistic than standard static ranges.
Instructors include Joe and Brenda Trefren. Brenda achieved Excellent marksmanship from Gunsight Academy—the only woman to do so in 15 years. Both are nurses by trade, which says something about their attention to safety and detail. The operation serves Anchorage, Soldotna, Fairbanks, Juneau, and Idaho locations.
- •Alaska Concealed Carry - State-required class for CCW permits. The permit is valid in 39 states and is NICS exempt for firearm purchases. Includes legal overview taught by an Anchorage attorney covering Alaska statutes and regulations.
- •Ladies Only Handgun - Two-day course designed for women with zero or limited handgun experience. Covers loading, unloading, safety handling, accuracy, and defensive mindset. Feedback consistently mentions instructors building confidence at a manageable pace.
- •Tactical Handgun - Defensive handgun training covering draw techniques, malfunction clearances, movement, cover/concealment, transitions, and engagement from various distances.
- •Tactical AR-15 - Two-day carbine course teaching marksmanship and defense with semi and full-auto platforms. $300 + $10 range fee (Juneau: $350 + $15). Requires AR-15 with sling, 3 magazines, 350+ rounds ammo, safety glasses, hearing protection. Covers zeroing, speed/tactical reloads, Type 1-3 malfunction clearances, moving while shooting, working with team members. Soldotna dates: May 3-4, 2025.
