The National Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors Association (NLEFIA) was officially established in January 2015 to serve firearms instructors in law enforcement, military, security, and professional training sectors. Their mission is straightforward: advance instructor knowledge and skills so they can train their students to a higher standard.

NLEFIA operates as a membership-based network dedicated to reducing the number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty from unlawful use of deadly force and firearms-related training accidents.
NLEFIA accepts instructors from multiple professional backgrounds:

All memberships include access to a members-only forum, searchable instructor directory, quarterly newsletter (The Rangemaster), downloadable lesson plans and PowerPoint presentations, and product discounts from corporate sponsors.
Life membership options available at $350-$600 depending on category, including commemorative certificate and metal challenge coin.
- •Certification Requirements: LE firearms instructor certification must come from reputable organizations—minimum 40-hour course for single weapon system or 2-Gun certification, or 80-hour 2-Gun/3-Gun certification. (40-hour 3-Gun certifications not accepted.)
NLEFIA offers multiple instructor development paths:
- •Semi-Auto Pistol Instructor Certification - 40-hour hybrid program (12 hours online, 28 hours in-person) - $675
- •Rangemaster Development - 3-day intensive - $675
- •Advanced Firearms Instructor - Specialized advanced training
- •Tactical Firearms Instructor - Tactical-focused instruction methodology
- •Force-on-Force Instructor Certification - Low-lethal scenario training
- •Remedial Training & Coaching Specialist - 2-day coaching focus - $450
- •Live-Fire Training Casualty Care - Emergency response during range incidents - $225
- •Red Dot Sights (RDS) for Duty Pistols - Modern optics instruction - $450
- •Variable Power Optics (VPO) for Patrol Rifles - Rifle optics training - $450
NLEFIA conducts courses across the United States, with 2026 events scheduled in Virginia, Washington, North Carolina, Kansas, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, Wyoming, California, Pennsylvania, and more. Most courses run 0800-1700 hours with online components completed before in-person attendance.
Current Policy: SIG Sauer P320 firearms prohibited in all NLEFIA courses pending safety review.
