Precision Response Training cuts through the myths about self-defense. While many shooters think "three shots, three yards, three seconds" is the standard, PRT teaches students that defensive situations vary wildly—from close-quarters assaults to mass shooting scenarios where distances exceed 40 yards.
Their flagship 6-8 hour program tackles concealed carry holistically. This isn't a quick certification. Students work through:
Course Details: - Cost: $150 - Length: 1 day (8am-5pm, approximate) - Lunch break included - No live fire (students use airsoft pistols for scenario work) - Classes split into manageable sizes for thorough debriefing
Students must be safe with firearms but don't need to own a gun or have a CCW permit yet. Bring the exact carry gun and holster you plan to use—this is the only way to know what works for your body and wardrobe. If you're still deciding, PRT has equipment available (advance notice required).
Bring to class: - Open mind and notebook - Your normal everyday clothing (jacket or coat that covers your carry setup) - Eye protection (for airsoft scenarios; hearing protection optional) - Your CCW gun (unloaded, in case), empty magazines, and practice barrel or barrel blocker - NO live ammunition allowed in the classroom
"DO NOT BRING LIVE AMMUNITION TO THE CLASS." This is non-negotiable. Snapcaps/dummy ammunition for dry practice is fine.
If you borrow PRT's equipment, contact them before class. Students who bring their own gear get the most accurate training.
Beyond CCW, PRT instructs competitive shooters in IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association). Their detailed blog covers:
They understand that IDPA success is about time management: every second saved on movement, reloading, and positioning directly improves your score.
PRT's approach rejects the oversimplified "average" defensive shooting statistics. They acknowledge that:
Based in California, PRT conducts both one-day courses and IDPA-related instruction. Check their event registration page for upcoming class dates and locations.
