Full description and what we offer
Rainbow Shooting Range in Fallbrook, California operates two primary clay shooting programs and hosts monthly competitive matches. The range has maintained an unblemished safety record since 1973 — over five decades of incident-free operations.
The range runs trap shooting events every Sunday (10 AM–2 PM) and Thursday (11 AM–2 PM) at their location on Rainbow Valley Boulevard. Non-members are welcome to participate without joining the club first. You'll need to bring:
Experienced members are on-site to offer tips and guidance. Whether you're a beginner trying clay shooting for the first time or a seasoned competitor, the atmosphere is welcoming and inclusive.
The Combat Steel Match runs on the second Saturday of each month, starting with a mandatory 9 AM safety briefing. The main competition wraps by 11 AM, with optional side games running until about 12:30 PM. Spectators are welcome.
What the match includes: - 5 shooting stages for handguns - 2 stages for rifles - 2 stages for shotguns - All stages feature 6 shots only
After the main match, the range sets up team competitions and elimination-style "walk-and-draw" brackets where shooters face off head-to-head.
"The match is open to anyone who can safely operate their firearm, whether or not they have prior competition experience; many local instructors promote this as a good 'first match'." — From the range's event guidelines
| Item | Details |

Safety is the non-negotiable foundation of all operations. The mandatory 9 AM briefing is required attendance — you will not be allowed to shoot without it. Anyone presenting a safety risk, however briefly or unintentionally, will be asked to secure their firearm for the day. There are no second chances on safety violations.
You must know how to: - Safely handle, load, and unload your specific firearm - Operate manual safeties or de-cockers - Follow range commands immediately
Despite being called the "Combat Steel Match," the range welcomes all firearms: - .22 rifles and pistols work fine (just aren't eligible for prize pins) - Race guns and competition holsters welcome (same prize restriction) - Cap-and-ball shooters have successfully competed - Younger participants commonly shoot .22s
The variety keeps the competition accessible while maintaining a serious safety standard.
Beyond regular programming, the range hosts special events like the 19th Annual Trap Club Event in December, where you can shoot a free round of trap if you bring an unwrapped toy for charity.
