San Leandro Rifle & Pistol Range is one of the few remaining facilities in the Bay Area that lets the public shoot indoors and outdoors at the same location. Open to shooters and law enforcement agencies since 1957, the range is owned and operated by the San Leandro Optimist Club—an NRA member organization since 1948 with NRA-certified staff.
One of the few public indoor/outdoor ranges still open to the public in the entire Bay Area.
Indoor Range: - 14 shooting lanes - Electric target returns at every station - Climate controlled
Outdoor Ranges: - 12 lanes at 12, 25, and 50 yards - 6 lanes at 100 yards - Lighted lanes - Covered shooting stations

Hours of Operation: - Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri: Indoor & outdoor 9am–8:45pm - Wednesday: Outdoor 9am–8:45pm; Indoor 9am–5pm (Junior Rifle Club after 5pm) - Saturday: Indoor 9am–8:45pm; Outdoor 9am–8:45pm - Sunday: Indoor & outdoor 9am–4:45pm
Weekdays: Call ahead at (510) 638-9605 or check the calendar. Law enforcement and other groups sometimes reserve ranges for practice and qualification.
The range hosts a competitive steel shoot on Saturday nights (outdoor ranges close at 5pm on Saturdays for this event). Entry is $30.
Requirements for SNSS participation: - Reliable pistol/revolver in 9mm, .38 Spl, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP - Magnum calibers and .22 LR NOT permitted - Rigid holster (Kydex/plastic or leather) - 3+ magazines or speed loaders - 100–300 rounds of factory or quality reloaded ammo - Secure gun belt
First-time shooters must: - Reserve a spot via [email protected] - Attend mandatory orientation (first Saturday of month at 5pm sharp) - Pass firearm operation & safety evaluation - Hit accuracy requirement: 10 of 30 shots at 21 yards (twice) - Maximum 6 new shooters per orientation session
GSSF, USPSA, IDPA, law enforcement, and shooting school graduates are preferred. Solid pistol skills and muzzle discipline are mandatory.
The range enforces strict safety policies:
Firearm Handling: - All firearms must be cased when entering or leaving the facility - Casing/uncasing only at the shooting bench - Loading/unloading only on the firing line, pointed downrange - No handling of firearms behind the firing line or during ceasefire - Actions must be open when not firing (unless cased)
Ammunition Restrictions: - Tracer ammo prohibited - FMJ, steel-core, and magnetic bullets not allowed on 100-yard rifle range - Handgun ammo over .454 Casull not allowed (454 must be lead only) - .50 caliber and above prohibited (except black powder) - Magnums other than .22 not allowed indoors
Firearm Restrictions by Range:
General Rules: - Eye and ear protection required - One shot every 2 seconds maximum (no rapid fire) - No cross-firing or diagonal shooting - Shotguns must be 2¾" non-magnum with full shoulder stock - No holsters (except law enforcement and SNSS) - Shooters under 12: not permitted - Ages 12–15: .22 rifles only, direct adult supervision required - Ages 16–18: No handguns unless accompanied by parent/grandparent/legal guardian - Ages 18–20: No handguns unless accompanied by shooter 21+ - Valid photo ID required for all shooters - Alcohol and illegal drugs prohibited - No smoking indoors or on firing line - No dogs (except service dogs) outside vehicles - Children must wear hearing protection
Range fees support the San Leandro Optimist Club's community service projects, with a strong emphasis on youth programs throughout the Bay Area. The club has been an NRA member since 1948.

Directions from I-880: Take the Davis Street West off-ramp. Continue west on Davis Street until it ends in a cul-de-sac. Range entrance is the center driveway, adjacent to Davis Street Waste Management facility.
