Location details and information

Redwood Gun Club sits on the Samoa peninsula between Arcata and Eureka in Humboldt County, California. It's open to the public Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm, rain or shine—though they may close early for bad weather or low attendance.

Non-members pay $20 cash per person per day. Active duty military, retired military, Reserves, and National Guard shoot free with proper ID. Club members shoot free.

The range setup includes:

  • Pistol ranges: 15 and 25 yard lanes
  • Rifle ranges: 50, 100, 200, and 300 yard distances
  • Dynamic shooting bays: Three bays for action shooting matches and classes

Whether you're sighting in a rifle for deer season, shooting friendly competition, or just plinking, the club says it'll have you coming back for the fresh sea breezes and friendly atmosphere.

Redwood Gun Club runs organized shoots throughout the year:

  • .22 2-Gun competitions
  • .22 Offhand Rifle matches
  • Air Gun Club events
  • Carry Gun Shoot (CCW holders and home defense pistol practice)
  • High Power Rifle matches
  • Mini-Palma competitions
  • RGC Steel Plate shoots
  • Tuesday Afternoon Schuetzen Verein (traditional rifle shooting)
  • Cowboy Action shooting (Single Action Shooting Society rules)

Cowboy Action uses single action pistols, lever action rifles, and double barreled shotguns or 1897 pump shotguns on approved AR500 steel targets. Ammunition must be lead only and meet minimum power factor requirements. Contact Ron Pulitano at 707-442-6613.

This event is designed for CCW holders, those interested in obtaining CCW, or people with firearms for home defense. It's a non-competitive shoot (though timers are used) where shooters move, engage multiple targets, and add controlled stress. It's explicitly not a substitute for professional defensive training.

  • Safety rules include:
  • Eye and ear protection required for all participants and spectators
  • Cold range—unloaded firearms only in designated areas
  • RSOs control all loading and unloading
  • Finger off trigger when not actively shooting
  • Muzzles must stay downrange (170-degree rule)
  • Dropped firearms result in stage disqualification
  • Accidental discharges within 10 feet of shooter or over the berm = disqualification
  • Shooters must assist with taping targets, picking brass, and general range support

Contact Chris Doane at [email protected] or 707-845-8796.

Redwood Gun Club offers a free Women's Handgun Safety Class and hosts a Ladies Only Range Day.
