Luark Ranch & Outfitters has been operating on Colorado's King Mountain since 1942. What started as Wilbur "the Mountain Man" Luark taking hunters into the Flat Tops evolved into a licensed, bonded outfitting operation across 5,760 acres of non-motorized Bureau of Land Management terrain.
The ranch remains family-operated today under Pat Luark and his wife Niki, with hopes their two sons will become the fourth generation to run the operation.
Lodging Options: - Teepee cabin (up to 6 hunters) - Willow Trailer (up to 6 hunters) - Bunk house (up to 4 hunters) - Guest House (up to 6 hunters)
All packages include lodging and horses. Group bookings welcomed—birthdays, reunions, bachelor parties.
The first elk killed on King Mountain was taken by Charlie Antel in 1972. Today, some hunters have returned annually for over 23 years.
Full-service meat processing on-site. They handle field-to-table preparation with professional standards.

Colorado Division of Wildlife regulates all licenses. Deer and elk applications must be mailed by April 1st each year. Check current CPW brochures for 2024 season dates, draw dates, and tag availability before booking.
Views overlook Castle Peak, W Mountain, Dome Peak, Middle Derby, and the Vail Ski area. King Mountain's logging trails provide wildlife viewing and photography opportunities. Campfire gatherings most evenings. On clear nights, you might hear coyotes howling in the distance.
The ranch raises cattle and horses year-round, maintaining working ranch operations alongside the outfitting business.
