North Park's resident elk herd numbers an estimated 10,000 head, and the region is known as some of the best deer hunting in Colorado. Habitat ranges from willow-lined river bottoms and sage brush to aspen draws and timbered ridges rising to alpine peaks.
Hunters stay in wood-heated cabins with warm hearths. Camp meals are prepared in the mess hall—described as savory camp-cooked food. The outfit handles all camp chores, packing, and animal care. You bring your license, hunting gear, and sleeping bag.
Coon Creek Cabin is featured on their website as part of their accommodation options.
The Medicine Bow mountain range foothills offer picturesque views and big game sightings. Hunting territory includes large sage and grass hillsides, open aspen draws, and steep timbered ridges. Access is via horseback and hiking from base camp.
License Requirements: Most Colorado licenses require applications by April 1st through the CPW drawing system. Over-the-counter licenses are available through local sports shops, CPW offices, or online at cpw.state.co.us. Check leftover lists after August 1st for additional drawing opportunities.
All Seasons Taxidermy is their recommended taxidermist for trophy processing.
