Full description and what we offer
Red Feather Guides & Outfitters operates from Walden, Colorado (49794 SH 14), in the heart of North Park's hunting country. They're licensed by Colorado (Outfitters License #666), bonded and insured, and operate under permits from Colorado State Forest, U.S. Forest Service/Routt National Forest, and Colorado State Parks.
They run October 1-14 hunts with three weapon options: - Rifle - Archery - Black powder
Their moose program is notable: Colorado released just 24 moose into North Park (1978-1979), and the first moose hunt started in 1985. Today they guide moose hunts in units 6, 171, 161, 16, and 17 with 1:1 guide ratios.
Important: Anyone born after January 1, 1949 must have a Colorado Hunter Safety Card. Clients are responsible for licenses, game processing, transportation to/from base lodge, and personal items.
Physical fitness matters. While horseback travel gets you into backcountry, considerable walking is still required. They match hunters to horses or mules based on experience level.

Multi-day camping trips beside high mountain lakes. Fishing for rainbows, browns, cutthroats, and brookies. Dedicated camp cook handles meals. Includes horseback riding, sightseeing, and photography.
They transport your group and gear by horseback, then retrieve you days later. Wilderness gear available if needed. Call for availability and pricing.
Electrically heated cabins with gender-separated shower houses (two showers each). Available year-round.
Hands-on experience where young riders learn camp setup, horse care, and teamwork. Riders typically have summer camp experience. They relocate camp at least once, with horses turned out to graze overnight. Mornings include hoof cleaning, brushing, and saddling. Each day riders move to different lakes and scenic views. Riders can bring their own meals to reduce costs.
