Rugged Rack Outfitters operates as a licensed Colorado Guide and Outfitter (License #3119) specializing in fully guided hunts across western Colorado's prime hunting country. Founded in 2001 and purchased by Robert and Kelsey Simpson in December 2021, the operation combines experienced guides, quality ranch property, and comfortable accommodations.
Robert brings over 13 years of guiding experience and the local knowledge to find game. Kelsey handles the meals—home-cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, plus snacks and drinks throughout camp.
Mule Deer & Elk - Rifle deer/elk: 90%+ shot opportunity - Archery deer: 90%+ shot opportunity - Archery elk: 70% shot opportunity - Mule deer typically range 160-200 B&C or larger - Elk from rag-horns to 330-340 B&C bulls
Bear & Mountain Lion - Fully guided rifle bear hunts in September, or add-on during deer/elk hunts ($800 trophy fee) - Color phase bears are common - Mountain lion hunts December 1 through March 31
The operation leases multiple private ranches ranging from 5,000 to 9,500 feet elevation across Game Management Units 52, 53, 62, 63, 65, and 521. Terrain varies from cedar and sage to oak brush, aspen, and spruce. All or part of operations conducted on BLM and U.S. Forest Service lands under special permit.
"Limited number of hunters taken each year" ensures healthy herd numbers and quality experiences.
Hunters stay in a spacious, clean 4-bedroom/2-bathroom hunting camp with full-service cooking. The outfit provides airport pickup from Montrose (MTJ) or Grand Junction (GJT), and handles trophy retrieval and transport to local processor/taxidermist.

Client Responsibility: - Hunting license and tags - All firearms and ammunition - Caping, processing, and taxidermy costs - Processing fees even if donating meat locally
