Summit County Shooting Range is a user-operated public facility located at 639 County Rd 66 in Dillon, Colorado—on landfill property just south of town. The range is owned by Summit County Government and managed by the Summit Range Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization. This is one of the few completely free shooting ranges in Colorado.
There's no fee to use this range. No membership, no day passes, no hidden charges. It's provided as a community service by Summit County. This operates on donations, volunteer hours, brass recycling, NRA grants, and state funding—so users are encouraged to leave the facility cleaner than they found it.

Check the Range Calendar on their website for scheduled closures due to maintenance or volunteer cleanup days.
Bring Your Own Supplies: Target stands and backers sometimes run short. Bring extras, plus your own stapler and staples to be safe. Wind is typically strong here.
NRA-certified Range Safety Officers (RSOs) volunteer their time. They wear yellow vests and hats—their directions have the force of law on the range. Check the RSO Calendar to see when volunteers will be on duty. RSOs:
No RSO on duty? You become the first Range Officer for the day and can delegate that role to someone else when you leave.
You must clean up your spent brass. You can keep your own. Brass donated to range-supplied buckets becomes property of the Summit Range Association and funds range supplies. Do not remove brass from donation buckets. Aluminum and steel casings go in trash barrels.
The range is working toward better accessibility. While the main entrance has steps, there's a wheelchair-accessible gate, marked parking, and entrance on the east end. Contact the Rangemaster if you need a handicapped vehicle brought to shooting positions—they'll arrange someone to unlock the vehicle gate when you arrive.
