George Lehr has been a competitive skeet shooter and coach for over 40 years. He's still actively competing and has become one of the most sought-after shooting instructors in the country, known for an eye for detail and teaching methods that get results.
His philosophy is simple: "An individual shooter will get far more out of one-on-one coaching, where personal attention to details, working with that shooter's own abilities, personality and mentality, will allow them to achieve their highest goals."
Whether you're picking up a shotgun for the first time or shooting at the national level, George structures his coaching around where you actually are:
George builds sound fundamentals from the ground up. He'll teach you proper gun fit, how to track targets, foot positioning, hold points, and more. You'll get specific exercises to reinforce what you learn.
He analyzes your technique and eliminates weaknesses one by one without tearing apart what's working. The goal is consistency—becoming a more reliable shooter.
For shooters who already break targets consistently, George focuses on smoothness, focus, pre-shot routines, sight pictures, and personalized techniques for shooting doubles. His background as a Doubles World Record holder gives him credibility here.

George recommends pairing shooters of equal ability in group sessions to maximize the value of instruction.
George is based in the Rochester, NY area, home to several quality gun clubs including Rochester-Brooks International Trap & Skeet Club and Victor Rod & Gun Club. Rochester sits on Lake Ontario's coast with plenty of accommodations and an international airport nearby—making it accessible for shooters traveling from across the country and internationally.
George's students include:
- •Louise K. Terry — 20-time Ladies World Skeet Champion, 25+ year NSSA All-American
- •Victoria Ferchaw — 2017 Ladies & Class World 12-Gauge Champion (credits George's mental game coaching)
- •Les Turner — 399x400 score, first 100x100 with .410 after coaching with George
- •Dan Berry — First 100 straight in Doubles at Victor Gun Club
- •John Scales — 2009 NY State 28-Gauge Champion
- •Scott Sobiegray — 2008 NY State 20-Gauge Champion, shot 8 perfect scores that year
- •Linda Hicks — Ladies Charity Classic success, won LY RU at 2010 US Open in Phoenix
- •Larry Bonavita — Manchester Open 28-Gauge Champion
- •Dave Wilke — AA-class shooter who improved rapidly after a single session
Students consistently mention that George catches things in their technique that other instructors miss, and that his ability to work with shooters at all levels—including brand-new beginners—without overwhelming them is a standout skill.
