Full description and what we offer
CDS Comprehensive Defensive Systems operates from Lakeland with two lead instructors whose resumes read like a federal law enforcement encyclopedia. Mike Parmigiani, VP and Lead Instructor, spent nearly 30 years in the Army National Guard and federal law enforcement, including a 12-year career managing international investigations into organized crime and drug trafficking. He was stationed at the FBI Academy as an instructor and later served as Chief of Police. Susie Dreiling, President and Lead Instructor, logged over 20 years in federal law enforcement with tactical and firearms expertise. She managed the FBI's Defensive Tactics, Physical Fitness, and Less-Lethal Programs for six years and was stationed at the FBI Academy in a senior management role.
That pedigree matters. Both instructors hold NRA and USCCA certifications. Parmigiani is a Certified Chief Range Safety Officer with the NRA and holds an ATF Federal Firearms License. Dreiling is a Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor, Physical Fitness Advisor, and Advanced Instructor—she also teaches yoga and meditation to first responders and military personnel.
Here's the core philosophy at CDS: shooting at a target 50 feet away in a calm environment is nothing like handling a critical incident. Real defensive scenarios are fast (3-5 seconds), close (3-5 yards), and demand multiple rounds (3-5 shots). That's the gap CDS fills. Their courses don't teach competition shooting or target marksmanship—they teach what actually happens when things go wrong.

This means: - Full background check capability via FDLE Firearm Eligibility System - Firearm transfers in and out - Access to distributor networks to source hard-to-find firearms at competitive prices - Try Before You Buy program: Pay for a lesson, shoot a used gun from their partner shop first, then decide if it's right for you

Services include: - Full safety inspection and function testing - Slide disassembly and reassembly - Sight adjustment and replacement - Magazine inspection and repair - Rifling inspection - Preventive maintenance and lubrication - Test firing before return
Home Security Assessment & Risk Management
CDS offers home defense reviews and security assessments. According to FBI statistics on home break-ins:
| Entry Point | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Front door | 34% |
| Back/screen doors | 22% |
| First floor windows | 23% |
Their assessment covers these vulnerabilities. Consumer Reports testing showed a standard deadbolt failed after just 2 impacts of a battering ram at 60 joules. A reinforced strike plate with 3-inch screws lasted 13 impacts at 160 joules each.
CDS is firm on this: if you own and carry a firearm, you need defensive coverage. They recently partnered with CCW Safe (founded by retired police officers and attorneys) because they believe it's the best self-defense coverage available. The data backs up their mission—the FBI reports violent crime has dropped year-over-year, with 48 states now allowing concealed carry and 29 states with constitutional carry. 22+ million Americans carry permits. And law enforcement officer deaths hit a 125-year low.
That's not luck. That's good training.
