Defensive Training Group has been the training partner of Gainesville Target Range since 2007, running hands-on courses for shooters who want to build genuine defensive skills. They don't sell gear or ammunition—they teach you how to shoot when it counts.
- •Everything is fundamentals. That's the core principle here. Whether you're in Reactive Handgun Fundamentals or Advanced Reactive Handgun, the focus stays on proper grip, stance, trigger control, sight management, and recoil management. The difference is intensity and round count—Advanced is fast-paced, high volume, and based on human response time principles developed by Bill Rogers and Rogers Shooting School.
Classes are limited to small groups (Advanced Reactive Handgun maxes at 5 students). Four-student minimum means instruction stays personal.

Home Defense Applications ($220) — Conducted inside an actual house. No live fire; blue (dummy) guns provided. Covers mindset, emotional control, building defensive depth, room clearing, movement in structures, and realistic one-to-two person scenarios. Nine hours.
- •Stress Drills & CQB — Close-quarters battle training with options for low-light CQB.
- •Church/Company Security Team Training (CSTT) — Specialized instruction for organizations building security programs.
- •Medical Bag/IFAK Builder — Tactical medical kit assembly and tourniquet application.
- •Night Vision Seminar — Dedicated NVG training.
- •Private Coaching — One-on-one or small group instruction. Custom curriculum available for handgun, carbine, shotgun, or mixed systems. Contact before registering.
Requirements vary by course, but typical needs include:
- •Service-size handgun in 9mm or larger (recommended)
- •400-500 rounds of practice ammunition for multi-hour classes
- •Three magazines minimum (or speedloaders for revolvers)
- •Belt-mounted holster (duty or concealment, depending on course)
- •Gun belt and magazine pouch
- •Wrap-around eye protection
- •Electronic hearing protection
- •Hat, sunscreen, full-coverage clothing
- •Rain gear for weather
No live weapons or ammunition for Home Defense Applications—training guns provided.
Classes run at Gainesville Target Range, 1610 NW 65th Pl, Gainesville, FL 32653. Most courses start at 9:00 AM.

Defensive Training Group accepts US Citizens and US Legal Permanent Residents only due to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance. You'll need to present photo ID at the first day of training.
