Full description and what we offer
Tactical Machining started in 2008 to build high-quality AR-15 platform parts. Today they operate a full-service machine shop in DeLand, Florida, manufacturing 80% lower receivers, complete uppers, lower parts kits, and handgun frames—all American-made and held to aerospace-grade tolerances.
80% Lower Receivers - AR-15 (forged 7075-T6 and billet 6061-T6) - AR-10 / .308 platform - AR-9 / 9mm variants - Polymer80 compatible frames (76%) - 1911 frames (TM Recon line) - Custom engraving available - Pricing: $34.99–$69.99 individual; bulk 5-packs and 10-packs available
AR-15 Components - Stripped upper receivers (forged and billet) - Complete upper assemblies (16" 5.56 NATO with quad rail, C7 carry handle options) - Lower parts kits (Mil-Spec compatible) - Buffer tubes and carbine stocks - Gas blocks, charging handles, tension screws - All held to Mil-Spec dimensions
Handgun Frames - Glock compatible slide castings and rails - P80 bridge frames (PF940CV1 compact, PF940V2 full-size) - Smith Defense premium LPKs
Many builders default to 7075 forged because "that's military spec." For custom home builds, 6061-T6 billet is often superior:
Superior Anodizing: 7075 contains high zinc content, leading to purple or uneven anodizing. 6061 anodizes deeply and consistently—deep black finish every time.
Corrosion Resistance: 6061 is marine-grade corrosion resistant. 7075 blooms and oxidizes if scratched. Lifetime durability favors 6061.
Easier Machining: 7075 is extremely hard—it wears out your drill bits and end mills faster. 6061 machines cleanly at home, resulting in better cuts and longer tool life.
Precision Manufacturing at Scale: Tactical Machining holds critical dimensions—takedown pin lugs, buffer tower threading, magazine well—to strict tolerances. This ensures compatibility with standard Lower Parts Kits and uppers from manufacturers like Aero Precision, BCM, and Anderson. Mix and match with confidence.
| Forged 7075-T6 | Billet 6061-T6 |
|---|---|
| Compressed grain structure | Custom aesthetic profiles |
| Superior directional strength | Integrated trigger guards |
| Mil-Spec standard, duty-ready | Flared magwells possible |
| $39.99–$54.99 | $59.99–$69.99 |
An 80% lower is a receiver blank—the fire control pocket and trigger pin holes haven't been machined. The ATF doesn't classify it as a firearm. You can purchase and ship to your door without an FFL transfer, provided you comply with local and state laws. You finish the machining yourself using a compatible jig and router or drill press.
Always check your local, state, and federal laws before ordering. Laws are constantly evolving. Tactical Machining's Ultimate AR Resource guide covers AR-15 vs. AR-10 compatibility and the build process from start to finish.
Tactical Machining maintains high-volume production capacity with multiple CNC centers running precision programs. Most items are in stock and ready to ship same day. Blemished units (cosmetic defects, fully functional) offer significant savings: $34.99 for blemished 7075 forged lowers vs. $39.99 for new stock.
