Full description and what we offer
The Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) operates the state's primary firearms instruction program for law enforcement, corrections, communications, and emergency service personnel. With multiple campuses across Georgia, GPSTC delivers specialized marksmanship and tactical training courses designed for officers at all experience levels.
The Marksmanship team covers fundamental and advanced shooting skills:
GPSTC is one of a limited number of training facilities in Georgia teaching "reactionary shooting" — a four-day advanced block conducted on their reactionary steel range as part of the Semi-Automatic Pistol III course.
GPSTC maintains extensive shooting infrastructure:
| Facility | Capacity | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Pistol ranges (2) | 26 targets each | Handgun fundamentals |
| Multi-purpose range | 28 targets | Varied skill development |
| Reactionary steel range | Advanced firing | Dynamic shooting scenarios |
| Crime scene range | Live-fire house | Realistic scenario training |
| Shotgun range | 44 targets, 50-yard | Shotgun proficiency |
| Rifle range | 200-yard targets | Intermediate rifle work |
| Long rifle range | Out to 600 yards | Precision/distance shooting |
The Tactical Operations team develops high-risk response training:
GPSTC operates a six-building mock village modeled after typical Georgia structures (bank, office, convenience store, motel, warehouse, residence). Training includes Active Shooter response, building entry, tactical searches, building clearance, and role-playing scenarios that replicate real-world law enforcement situations.
GPSTC operates 10 training locations across Georgia: Forsyth (main), Alpharetta, Athens, Bainbridge, Coastal, Columbus, Metro, Rome, Savannah, and Tifton.
