FI Academy started from a simple observation: Hawaii's shooting community needed more than just firearms access—it needed education, confidence, and support. As an extension of Firearms International, this woman and family-owned academy built a space designed specifically to welcome newcomers, women, and experienced shooters alike.
Located at 1150 N Nimitz Hwy, Suite 5, Honolulu, HI 96817, FI Academy operates daily from 9am-5pm. They're open seven days a week, making it easy to schedule training around your life.
Every instructor on the FI Academy team holds NRA certifications with real-world expertise:
Mia Mijuskovic - Chief instructor and academy owner. NRA Certified Pistol and Rifle Instructor, Personal Protection Inside and Outside the Home (PPITH/PPOTH), Chief Range Safety Officer.
Tyler Matsuda-Yamamoto - Gunsmith and NRA Instructor. Six years active duty Army as a Combat Engineer; specializes in home defense and combat readiness.
Shaun Duldulao - NRA Pistol Instructor and Range Safety Officer. 13 years Hawaii Army National Guard (CBRNE Specialist), currently Hawaii Air National Guard Security Forces.
Craig Woodward - NRA Instructor and Sales Specialist. Four years Marine Infantry (USMC) with advanced CQB, Infantry Tactics, and Combat Life Saving certifications.

Hawaii Basic Safety Course - Legal requirement for handgun and long gun permits in Hawaii. Covers essential safety principles, proper firearm handling, and Hawaii-specific regulations.
Hawaii CCW Course - Preparation for your Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license. Includes state laws, use-of-force guidelines, defensive mindset, and hands-on range time.

First-time shooters: Don't hesitate. FI Academy specifically designed their environment to be welcoming to people who've never touched a firearm. No experience required.
Do I need experience? No. FI Academy welcomes beginners and guides you every step of the way.
Is the Basic Safety Course required? Yes. Hawaii law requires completion before getting a handgun or long gun permit.
Are women-only classes available? Yes. One-on-one training available in a supportive, inclusive setting.
