Coeur d'Alene Rifle & Pistol Club & Jr. Div.

The Coeur d'Alene Rifle and Pistol Club has operated continuously for over 70 years at 6001 North Atlas Road in scenic North Idaho. They welcome new members and shooters looking to sight in rifles and pistols with the goal of building club membership.

The club operates multiple outdoor ranges:

• •10, 25, 50, 100, and 200-yard outdoor ranges with covered firing points and benches
• •50-foot indoor range (limited to .22 rimfire only)
• •All ranges feature reduced target options for competition

The club maintains an active high power rifle program with matches held the first Saturday of each month (January through September) on the public 100-yard range. New shooters are welcome—the club provides training needed to get started.

Seven Courses of Fire include:

• •Offhand Match (60 rounds, 600 aggregate)
• •100-yard Any Sight Match Rifle/Tactical Match (50 rounds, 500 aggregate)
• •Vintage Service Rifle Match—any country of origin (50 rounds, 500 aggregate)
• •CMP John C. Garand Match with iron sights—M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, or Springfield 1903 rifles (50 rounds, 500 aggregate)
• •Modified F-Class Match prone position with rifle rests and optical sights (60 rounds, 600 aggregate)
• •100-yard Iron Sight Lever Action Silhouette Match offhand (50 rounds, 500 aggregate)
• •NRA 100-yard Modified National Match Course (50 rounds, 500 aggregate)

Upcoming match schedule: - February: Offhand Match (center fire, bolt action hunting rifle) - March: 50-shot NRA Highpower or offhand match - April: 50-round Garand Match and 50-round NRA Highpower Match

The active Pistol Committee runs two distinct competitions:

NRA Bullseye Outdoor Matches (April - November) - Three-gun events known as "2700s" (total points possible) - 270 rounds total: 90 rounds each with .22 caliber, centerfire, and .45 pistols - Slow-fire at 50 yards; timed and rapid fire at 25 yards - Slow-fire: 10 shots in 10 minutes per target - Timed-fire: 5 shots in 20 seconds (twice per target) - Rapid-fire: 5 shots in 10 seconds (twice per target) - Any sights permitted; red-dots are popular

Indoor Postal League (December - March) - 10 sets of targets shot for record - Dual scoring: club internal league + 4-man team scores to Spokesman-Review postal league - Spokesman-Review postal league running 60+ years with 65+ teams from western states - .22 caliber section shot indoors at 50 feet using reduced targets - Any .22 standard pistol (semi-automatic or revolver) with any sights - Spokesman Review 2025 Postal hours: Tuesday 10:00 AM-12:00 PM; Thursday 5:00 PM-7:00 PM; Saturday 12:00 PM-2:00 PM

Directed by Tom Alapai, a certified firearm instructor with Army JROTC and 4-H/Boy Scouts coaching experience.

Program Details: - Open to youth age 10 and older - NRA Qualification Program featuring 4-position shooting at 50 feet - Teaches fundamentals of gun safety and competitive shooting - Schedule: Friday evenings 5:00 PM, mid-September through mid-May - Cost: $5.00 per shooter (includes club rifle, ammunition, targets, and equipment) - Awards available as shooters advance in skills - Contact Tom Alapai at 208-819-4890 for enrollment or volunteer opportunities

Fundamental Gun Handling: 1. Always point muzzle in safe direction (downrange) 2. Keep finger off trigger until ready to fire 3. Keep action open and firearm unloaded until ready 4. Know your firearm and ammunition 5. Be sure of target and what's beyond it 6. Eye and ear protection mandatory for all shooters and spectators 7. No alcohol before or during range use—violators must leave 8. Store firearms inaccessibly to unauthorized persons

Club Range Enforcement: - Know and obey all range commands - No forward movement beyond firing line until guns are safe - Obey range warning light safety system - No gun handling while anyone is downrange - Fire only at forward edge of firing line with muzzle beyond concrete pad - Only authorized targets—no rocks, pine cones, bottles, cans, or boxes - Target frames supported only—not to be deliberately fired at - Designate range officer if none present - Unload, open action, remove magazine, ground, bench, or holster all firearms during cease fire - Muzzle always pointed downrange toward backstops - Must sign in and pay range fees - One person per shooting bench while firing - Non-compliance results in loss of shooting privileges; repeated infractions may result in membership loss

Members can compete on the club's High Power rifle team, Bullseye Pistol team, or Small Bore Rifle team.
