Full description and what we offer
The Rimfire Challenge Shooting Association (RCSA) is the national clearinghouse for .22 LR competitive shooting events. Previously known as the Ruger Rimfire Challenge and NSSF Rimfire Challenge, RCSA now sanctions and supports rimfire matches at ranges across the country.
Here's how the sport works: You bring a .22 LR pistol and a .22 LR rifle. Shoot 5 steel plates minimum to 7 maximum at designated distances. Complete 5 strings of fire, throw out your worst time, and your 4 best times become your score. Two divisions—Open and Limited—keep it fair for everyone from beginners to veterans.
This is affordable competitive shooting. No expensive ammunition, no heavy recoil, no special gear required. A .22 rifle and pistol cost a fraction of what most match shooters spend, making it accessible to newcomers, youth, and experienced competitors looking for a low-pressure way to stay sharp.
"To promote and grow Rimfire Challenge dedicated shooting sports in a safe and fun manner for competitors of all skill levels."
Match Sanction & Organization - Posts approved match calendar on website and social media - Lists events on PractiScore for competitor registration - Requires clubs to follow RCSA Rulebook for consistency - Handles per-shooter fees ($709-2 Plaza Drive, PMB 126, Chesterton, IN 46304)
Range Support RCSA provides detailed guidance for clubs starting programs: - Rulebook and range commands (non-negotiable for safety) - Target specifications (8" minimum, AR-grade .375" steel) - Equipment recommendations (timers, tablets via PractiScore, target stands) - Setup templates for 5-7 plate configurations - Safety brief templates

Board President Pete Swenson (Michigan City Rifle Club) pioneered RCSA after NRA smallbore rifle participation declined. He's an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer and certified instructor across multiple disciplines.
Vice President Greg Goff runs Cavern Cove Competitive Shooting Range (Alabama) alongside RCSA duties. Co-owns the facility with 6 championship matches per year across USPSA, Steel Challenge, Cowboy Action, NRL 22, 3-Gun, and Rimfire Challenge.
Secretary Tracy Stefanski brought RCSA to Wisconsin—secured first state championship match at Schultz Resort Rod and Gun Club in Muskego, WI for 2024.
Treasurer Randy Morris competes nationally in RCSA, USPSA, and SCSA matches. Served as RO at RCSA World Championship 3x and competed there 3x.
Director of Rules and RSO Training Wayne Kidd brought three generations (son, youngest son, father) into RCSA since 2019.
Members at Large Jenn Seelhoff-Sailors and Tom Sigmon represent 14 corporate sponsors and drive youth participation respectively.

Gun Club (Fort Smith, Arkansas)
Clubs get step-by-step guidance on: - Range setup (north/south orientation preferred to control sun) - Target configuration and sourcing (Challenge Targets, GT Targets, Action Target, Shoot Steel) - Equipment purchasing (timers, tablets $100-$150, PVC shooter boxes, canopies) - Social media strategy (Facebook/Instagram required for visibility) - PractiScore integration (free listing and registration platform) - Safety briefing protocols
Target paint matters—use RangeStore.net Steel Target Paint instead of Home Depot paint for better coverage and to support companies backing the shooting sports.
