Big Springs Shooting Complex

Big Springs Shooting Complex operates as part of the Brownells ecosystem, offering a state-of-the-art outdoor shooting facility in Searsboro, Iowa. The range features dedicated lanes for rifle, pistol, shotgun, trap, and skeet shooting—all in an open-air setting.

The range opens May 1 each year and operates seasonally through November. General public hours are:

• •Tuesdays: 5pm–8pm (appointment only, 24-hour notice required)
• •Saturdays: 12pm–4pm

Gold members get additional access on Wednesdays (5pm–8pm) and Saturday mornings (8am–12pm). Platinum corporate and agency members can book anytime during operating hours.

Every lane rental includes a Range Safety Officer (one per five shooters) to supervise the activity. All rentals include access to onsite ammo, targets, eye protection, and ear protection.

Silver Member (Free) - $20/hour for rifle and handgun ranges - $7 per trap/skeet round (25 targets per round) - Available Tuesdays and Sundays

Gold Member ($450/year) - Free lane reservations for rifle and handgun ranges - $5 per trap/skeet round - Available Wednesdays and Saturdays - Includes key fob to gate system - Free target each visit (Sight-In or FBI Q target)

Platinum members get access to premium facilities including the Crazy Quail range, classrooms, golf carts, 100-yard moving target system, running and biking trails, and shooting props. With manager approval, agencies access low light and night shooting plus vehicle close-quarters battle (CQB) training.

Members can choose from three unique shooting experiences led by professionals. Gold and Platinum members receive discounts on these guided experiences.

The facility specializes in custom events for:

• •Law enforcement and agency training (LEO personnel development)
• •Special Operations Wounded Warriors (SOWW events)
• •School groups (educational outings)
• •Youth groups (supervised shooting activities)
• •Corporate team building (Platinum members: 1 reserved event per year with staff assistance)

Platinum Corporate members can reserve the entire range for their annual retreat. Platinum Agency members can host multiple events per year and must provide their own Range Safety Officers.

The range maintains strict safety standards. Shooters cannot use:

• •Binary reactive targets (Tannerite)
• •Tracer rounds
• •"Dragons Breath" ammunition

To use the range, you must:

• •Be 18+ years old (under 18 must check in with RSO first)
• •Have valid government ID
• •Be sober (alcohol and drugs strictly prohibited)
• •Be in stable mental and physical health (pregnant shooters denied access)
• •Have no felony convictions or domestic violence misdemeanors

Reservations are non-refundable but can be transferred within 12 months.
